Home MenuInput Sought for Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex Public Art Project
Award-winning multidisciplinary artist Malene Barnett was selected to design large-scale public art for the future Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex (WCNCC). The City of Greensboro, in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro’s Public Art Endowment, seeks suggestions for the project. Residents may offer input and perspectives through this online survey.
Public feedback will assist and guide Barnett in her creative process, ensuring the final design authentically reflects the voices, stories, and lived experiences of the east Greensboro community.
The Brooklyn-based artist earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture and has been featured in galleries and publications nationwide. Her art is informed by her African Caribbean heritage, and she strives to honor her roots and inspire community through her work. Residents can meet Barnett at an upcoming signing for her book, “Crafted Kinship: A Journey Through Black Caribbean Creativity” from 4-5:30 pm on Friday, February 20, at Scuppernong Books, 304 S. Elm St.
Scheduled to open in 2027, the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex will seamlessly combine the facilities and resources of a library, recreation center, and park into a transformative hub of services. The facility’s community-based program design will serve as a catalyst for new economic development and a model for collaborative delivery of multigenerational community support through lifelong learning, recreation, healthy living, and other vital services.
