AIR Programs

About AIR

Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation offers quality inclusive and specialized recreational programs and events for people of all abilities. Activities in these programs may be modified and/or adaptive equipment may be available to assist the participants.

Some of these programs are suggested for certain age groups and ability classifications so the programs can be geared to meet specific needs. However, we will make reasonable accommodations for any individual who wants to participate in a program not suggested for his or her age group or ability. The request must be made at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the program. We also encourage Adaptive Golffamily and friends to participate in our programs when space is available.

The City shares the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protects qualified individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disabilities and provides for equality of opportunity in the services, programs, activities and employment of the City.

Inclusion refers to a philosophy that goes well beyond non-discrimination and takes a proactive approach to including all people in all programs and services. Participants have opportunities to select activities of interest provided by Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation or any other programs offered by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for inclusion that reduce physical, programmatic and attitudinal barriers. In addition to providing support to recreational programs, we act as a resource to the community in areas such as advocacy, disability awareness, and disability training.
