The Drama Center offers summer day camps that cover a wide-range of theatre arts, including musical theatre, stage combat, playwritingfilmmaking, acting, and comedy for ages 6-15. No theatre experience is necessary for kids to have fun. 

Our instructors are professionals in their fields with decades of experience as performers and directors. Sessions have a maximum 15:1 student-instructor ratio. Each week ends with a free, live performance for family and friends.

  • Cost: $200 early bird special; $250 if you register after March 15
  • Each session is five days, Monday through Friday
  • Camp hours: 9 am to 5 pm 
  • Extended hours available: Early drop off begins at 8:30 am. Late pickup ends at 5:30 pm.
  • Location: Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St., Greensboro

Musical Theatre Weeks

Experience an amazing collaboration with the Drama Department, the Dance Project and Art Alliance to produce shortened versions of Broadway musicals. This is an opportunity for kids to learn acting and singing, dance, and set design. They will get a full theatre experience of one of two beloved musicals featuring a little orphan girl and a wily street urchin who vies for the attention of a princess.

Let’s Make a Movie

  • July 8-12
    Ages: 9-11
  • July 22-26
    Ages: 12-15

Channel your inner Steven Spielberg. Learn the techniques involved in making a movie both in front of and behind the camera. Write, direct, act, and shoot. The class will produce a movie.  Learn acting and moviemaking techniques, and the use of stage makeup. The class will culminate with the premiere of the completed film.

Invasion of the On Stage Kids

  • July 8-12
    Ages: 6-8

Kids take the stage. The class will entail acting out scenes using creativity and expression. Possibilities are unlimited in this eclectic class utilizing a variety of drama and theatre techniques.  A fantastic introduction to theatre for young children.

Imagination Station

  • July 15-19
    Ages: 6-8

We'll take your child's imagination and expand it into an onstage experience. Children will learn to share ideas, build an ensemble, and explore imaginative worlds. Using props and costumes, they will create an original performance piece.

Fairytale Theatre

  • July 22-26
    Ages: 6-8

Here’s your kid's chance to be a princess, knight, king, queen, dragon, or any of those fairytale characters they dream of playing. Young actors will get to create the roles in many well-known fairy tales and fables. Using costumes, props and playacting, they will act out their favorite stories and tales.

Page to Stage

  • July 22-26
    Ages: 9-11         

This week is part playwriting, part acting. Adapt a story you know for the stage and then act it out with the rest of the class. Create a character and pick up some acting techniques. Find stories from books or write your own. Class will create and star in their own short play.

The Most Awesome Battle in History

  • July 15-19
    Ages: 9-11

Join the epic battle! Stage combat is choreographed, safe, physical and fun. In the context of a play and scene work, there will be emotional development along with fists, swords, punches, kicks, and more. This week will be taught by two certified stage combat professionals, one specializing in sword fights and one in fisticuffs. 

The Comedy Club

  • July 15-19
    Ages: 12-15

Is your kid the the class clown? Turn those skills into a performance and get applause. We’ll cover it all -- pratfalls, slapstick, improvisation, and comic timing.
