Hester Park is one of the City of Greensboro's four regional parks. The park is named in honor of Oka T. Hester, former director of the Parks & Recreation Department. Hester Park provides recreation and leisure for people of all ages. 

Features and Amenities:

  • Seven picnic shelters available for reservation
  • Stocked 5.7-acre lake with four fishing piers (one is accessible)
  • A 1.3-mile walking and exercise trail with fitness stations
  • Two playgrounds
  • A "ninja-warrior" style station
  • Two horseshoe pits
  • Two sand volleyball courts
  • 11 lighted tennis courts
  • Gazebo
  • One open recreation field
  • Drop-in picnic sites are located throughout the park with grills and picnic tables available on a first-come basis.
  • Two athletic fields that are available for rental. Please call 336-412-5799 for more information about field reservations.

What's Happening at Oka T. Hester Park:

  • Come enjoy a day of fishing at Hester Park. Purchase your Daily Fishing Pass & bait at the Hester Park Office.
    • Daily Fishing Pass: $2.00
    • Bait: $4.00  
  • Youth ages 12-and-under can fish for free. 
  • Hester Park is part of the NC Community Fishing Program. As a participant of this program, catchable-sized channel catfish are stocked in the ponds April through September. The Community Fishing Program allows for catching and keeping up to six catfish per day.
  • All anglers must follow NC rules and regulations for fishing, including possessing a valid fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license online at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission website.

Please note: While visiting the park, we request that you do not feed the waterfowl.
