GYC offers service learning opportunities through leadership roles as executive board member, project chair and project staff. These positions require more time and dedication than a GYC normal volunteer opportunity. All positions receive assistance from a GYC advisor to successfully run their area and you do not have to be a GYC member to hold a position, though membership is strongly encouraged.

We are considered a service learning provider through Guilford County Schools for those working toward a Service Learning Diploma or Certificate. Learn more about Guilford County School's Service Learning requirements. 

Ghoulash Staff

GYC is looking for hard working, creative, and dedicated teens to serve on the 2019 Ghoulash staff. Ghoulash is an annual Halloween Festival in downtown Greensboro with games, face painting, bounce houses, costume contest, lots of candy, and much more! This year's event will be held on Saturday, October 26.

Below are the available positions that will work with a GYC adult advisor. Those serving in these roles on Ghoulash staff can earn 20-60 service learning hours. Staff meetings and preparation will begin in August.Ghoulash 2018 volunteers

Area Leaders- lead their assigned areas managing assistants and volunteers to ensure a successful event.

  • Business Manager- This position manages the business office, monitors the the set up and countdown of cash boxes, and trains a staff and volunteers on business procedures. Being organized, a fast learner, and interested in business or finance are a plus for someone in this position. 
  • Activities Manager- Creativity and the ability to multi-task are important for this role. This position plans game booths, bingo, and monitors the bounce houses/inflatables for the event with the help of two trained assistants.
  • Costume Contest Manager- This position coordinates multiple contests, secures judges, and works with the Ghoulash Chair and their assistants to secure fun prizes for contest winners. 

Area Assistants- work with Area Leaders in planning and running specific areas of Ghoulash

  • Business Assistants-Learn all business procedures and operations to help Business Manager train volunteers and run the business office.
    • Four people are needed to serve as assistants
  • Activities Assistants- Help Activity Manager plan and create fun filled activities and games for Ghoulash. 
    • Two people are needed to serve as assistants
  • Costume Contest Assistants- Assist with securing prizes, running registrations, and ensuring each contest runs smoothly.
    • Two people are needed to serve as assistants

    • You will receive an e-mail stating we received your application and it is being reviewed.
  • How does the selection process work?
    • Applications are reviewed by the Project Chair and their advisor. Once all applications are reviewed, you will receive a call from the Project Chair regarding the position.
