No bank fishing is allowed. Boat ramps are available at each lake for private boat launches. No motor restrictions or speed limits for private boats. Customers may bring their own electric trolling motors or gas powered motors (less than 10 hp) for use on the rental rowboats.
All anglers must follow NC rules and regulations for fishing, including possessing a valid fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license at any of our three City lakes. You can also purchase a fishing license online on the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission website.
Fish found in the lakes: largemouth bass, black and white crappie, channel catfish, brown and yellow bullhead, yellow perch, chain pickerel, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, pumpkinseed, warmouth, red ear/shellcracker, threadfin and gizzard shad. Bodie bass (hybrid) and striped bass can be found in Lake Townsend.
Saturday Sunrise Fishing
Last Saturday of the month May - October Lake Townsend will open at 6 am.
- Gates open at 6 am
- 25 mph speed limit before sunrise
- PFD must be worn while driving
- No boat rentals before sunrise

Year-long tournament at all three Greensboro lakes.
Largest bass wins the month.
- $25 one-time entry fee.

- Monthly winners receive annual permit, t-shirt, and entry into $1,000 Fish-Off next spring.
