Plan Update Presented to Planning and Zoning Commission - September 15

Housing and Economy Workshop - August 16

How we grow Housing & Economy Workshop
The fifth and final public workshop for the South Greensboro Plan was held on August 16 at Allen Middle School. The plan’s draft recommendations were on display, along with many key elements from the plan on more than 30 posters of information. Participants enjoyed food and a school-supply raffle encouraged participation.

Culture and Authenticity Workshop - May 22

The fourth public workshop for the South Greensboro plan celebrated the rich diversity of the area as residents had a first look at some of the draft recommendations included in the plan. Great food was provided and family-fun activities included a community art project, the project playlist, and a tour of the cultural foods growing in the Brown Recreation Center's community garden.

Environment and Economy Workshop - January 18

The third conversation in support of the South Greensboro planning process was Saturday, January 18 at Brown Recreation Center. The focus was on local environmental and economic issues. The workshop included opportunities to inform recommendations to be included in the final plan.

Residents, business owners, and frequent visitors of South Greensboro gathered October 23 at Frazier Elementary School for the second public workshop. Participants identified key issues and opportunities in this growing part of the Gate City.

Vision Workshop - September 12, 2024

This workshop was the first part of the City’s effort to work with area residents to study critical issues and creative solutions to improve South Greensboro’s quality of life and guide its future growth. Once developed and adopted in late 2025, the South Greensboro Plan will help City staff, residents, business owners, and decision makers enjoy a more prosperous, safe, and closely-knit community.

City staff conducted the workshop at TMSA Triad Elementary School. Participants joined discussions and exercises identify key issues and opportunities for those living and working in this growing part of the Gate City.

Public input is also available online via the South Greensboro Area Plan Vision Survey.

So what exactly is this plan going to focus on?

These themes will initially guide the development of the plan:

  • Impact on neighborhoods of industrial uses located near highways, in particular commercial and truck traffic.

  • Abrupt transitions between land uses.legos Randleman

  • Annexations and rezoning on the southern boundary of Greensboro.

  • Providing adequate park facilities, green space, and increased trail connectivity.

  • Stormwater management in green space-oriented around creeks.

  • Property upkeep in commercial areas.

  • Multifamily, highway-oriented commercial uses, and industrial uses associated with existing freeways.

  • The desire for adequate retail, banking, and other services in many parts of the community.
