Although national surveys indicate that people age 65 or older represent a relatively low victimized age group, our seniors often exhibit a great fear of crime.
Due to the natural consequences of aging, i.e., loss of hearing and/or eyesight along with other chronic and debilitating conditions, you may perceive yourself as being easy to victimize. If you live alone or in isolation, you may believe you are more vulnerable to crime.
But, as a senior citizen you shouldn’t feel helpless! You don’t necessarily need physical strength or expensive security devices to reduce your chances of becoming a victim.
By learning how criminals operate, and using some basic crime prevention techniques, you can be safer.
