Garbage dumpster collection is available 1-6 times per week. Recycling dumpster collection is available 1-5 times per week. The location of your business may affect which days are available in your area.

The City of Greensboro rents 8 yard dumpsters for $62/month. 

If you provide your own dumpster, we will not service it if there are holes in the bottom or if the lifting sleeves are damaged. Please review dumpster requirements. 

Dumpsters blocked by vehicles or debris may not be emptied until the next service day. 

Cleaning up overflow trash that doesn't make it into the truck is the responsibility of the customer.

In Greensboro, you can recycle the following items in your recycling dumpster: 

All recyclables must be unbagged and loose in the dumpster for collection. Bagged recycling is not accepted by our processor and is considered contamination. 

Your recyclables may not be picked up if your dumpster is contaminated with garbage or other unacceptable materials.

Are you an industrial or manufacturing business that generates unusual waste? Try searching the NC Recycling Markets Directory for companies that specialize in recycling common and not-so-common materials. You may also try posting a free message at the North Carolina Waste Trader, a marketplace for surplus materials. Both of these websites are sponsored by the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

For businesses with an Alcohol Beverage Commission License, container recycling is required. If your business has an ABC license, recycling compliance is part of your permit requirements.  

We provide the required ABC recycling form, blue recycling carts for glass bottles and jars, and flexible collection options to keep your business compliant. The glass material is collected and transformed into new bottles and jars in Wilson, NC.

Monthly fees are based on location inside or outside our service district.

Monthly fees are based on location inside or outside our service district.

Small businesses that don't generate a large amount of trash may qualify for our residential garbage collection. One green roll-out trash cart is provided at no charge. A second can may be purchased for a one-time fee.

If a business generates more trash than can be enclosed in these two containers each week, the business must upgrade to dumpster service. Overflow trash that does not fit in two 96-gallon carts will not be collected.

Collection Day
Garbage dumpster service is available one to six times per week. The location of your business and current routing may determine which days are available in your area. Extra or unscheduled dumpster collection is also available for a fee. Prohibited Items
Yard waste, appliances, tires, batteries, paint, liquids, medical waste, and hazardous waste should not be placed inside dumpsters. You may be denied service if any of these items are found in your dumpster.

Dumpster Access
If gates enclose a dumpster, they must be opened by 5 am on your service day. Please make sure no vehicles are blocking the dumpster.

Dumpster Placement
The Solid Waste & Recycling Department must approve a dumpster site for safety and accessibility before service begins. Before ordering a dumpster, contact a sales representative for a free inspection.

Missed Service
If your dumpster is not serviced, call the Contact Center at 336-373-CITY (2489). Please note that if your dumpster contains prohibited items or is blocked, it will not be serviced until your next collection day.

Free bulk trash pickup is available for multi-family communities that receive trash dumpster service from the City of Greensboro. 

Bulk Trash items include furniture, mattresses, bed frames, box springs, and other similar items.
