Pay GTA and Access GSO fares with one touch using UMO from GTA!

Accepted on GTA and Access GSO buses, UMO uses the latest payment technology to pay your bus fare using your choice of a touch card or your mobile device. Easier payments and faster boarding are just a couple of the benefits of UMO for our riders. To begin, simply decide if you prefer to use the card or your mobile device.

UMO Card
UMO Card The size of a standard credit card, the UMO card contains a radio chip and antenna detected by the on-board fare reader when touched. Cards are available at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot Customer Service. The card costs $2, and you must activate it at purchase with a minimum of $5. Once activated, it is ready to use on your bus, but if you register it online, you will enjoy protection in case of loss or theft. The replacement fee for the card is $2.

UMO Fare ReaderWhen the card touches the reader on the bus, the appropriate fare is deducted from your standing balance signified by an audio sound and a green light for a regular fare and a blue light for discount fare. If you do not have enough funds available, the reader will decline with a different sound and a red light, and you will need to provide an alternative form of payment like cash. If you qualify for one of GTA's discount fares, the correct amount will be deducted. As a helpful reminder, a yellow light and sound will remind you that your balance is getting low.UMOweb

The UMO card will also serve as your transfer between routes...just use within 60 minutes of your original trip to complete your travel on GTA.

When your balance gets low, simply refill online at the secure GTA UMO site or visit your place of purchase. For your convenience, set your account to autoload whenever the balance falls below the amount you determine. If you wish to get or load a card by mail, download our order form.

*Note: When paying fares with the UMO card or app on GTA fixed-route services, you will automatically benefit from "fare capping" where you will never pay more than $4/$2 per calendar day for rides or $58/$29 for 31-days, eliminating the need to purchase a 1-day or 31-day unlimited ride pass.

Once completed, you can add funds or buy tickets to add to your UMO account.

When boarding the bus, open the app and choose the fare you wish to pay, which will produce a QR code on the screen. Turn the device so that the code is facing the reader and fills the video square with the code until you hear the confirmation sound of acceptance or decline. Just as with the UMO card, you will need to use another payment method if declined. The mobile app also serves as your transfer...just select the transfer fare and validate on the reader.

Both the UMO card and mobile app can be used to pay fares on GTA and Access GSO buses. Through a regional partnership, you can also pay fares on PART Express and High Point Transit System. Their cards/apps can be used on our system also. Riders may have a different set of fares and rates to choose from but will follow the same instructions for setup and use.

One additional benefit of the UMO app is an integrated trip planner. Similar to Google Transit, enter your destination and it will display your journey with bus stops and routes to be used. Of course, when you board the bus, just scan your UMO app to pay the fare.
