Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan
The Greensboro Urban Area Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan serves as the official roadway classification map for freeways, major and minor thoroughfares, and collector streets within the Greensboro MPO planning area. The plan is adopted by the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and referenced in local land development regulations.

Amendments & Modifications
The Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan is updated periodically, including, but not limited to reflect:
- Streets that have been constructed
- Removal of planned streets, alignments, or interchanges that are no longer feasible or necessary
- Alignment adjustments resulting from development, environmental constraints, or engineering considerations
- Revisions to street classifications
Recent Updates
Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan- FY 2026 Update #1
The following changes were reviewed and adopted at the March 11 TAC meeting:
- Sandy Ridge Road: removal of a planned rail grade separation, an interchange, and a collector street extension north of W. Market Street.
- US 70: removal of the planned US 70 Bypass around the Town of Sedalia.
Jurisdiction- Specific Adopted Plans
These plans are consistent with the MPO Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan and were initially adopted by individual jurisdictions. Jurisdiction-specific Thoroughfare & Collector Plan maps reflect the current MPO-adopted plan, including amendments and modifications approved by the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) since initial jurisdiction adoption.

Background & Policy Context
The Thoroughfare & Collector Street Plan is referenced in the City of Greensboro, Guilford County, and Towns of Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, and Summerfield Land Development Ordinance and guides:
- Street design standards by roadway classification
- Right-of-way acquisition and protection during development
- Location and development of future thoroughfares and collector streets
- Access management along major streets
- Coordination of roadway planning with bicycle, pedestrian and transit facilities
