Project History

East Vandalia Road between South Elm-Eugene Street to Pleasant Garden Road is planned for improvements to increase vehicle capacity and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Design is on-going but nearing completion. A portion of the project was redesigned to comply with updated federal guidelines.

Recommended improvements include:

• Widening to three lanes with a center turn lane. 
• Installing bike lanes.
• Installing curb and gutter.  
• Installing sidewalks.

Anticipated Schedule

• Complete culvert design – Fall 2025
• Submit plans for NCDOT Review – Winter 2025
•  Complete Right-of-Way Acquisition / Begin utility relocation – Spring 2026
• Advertise for construction – Spring 2027
• Begin construction – Fall 2027
• Complete construction – Spring 2029
