About Project
The Summit Avenue Streetscape project provided streetscape enhancements along Summit Avenue from LeBauer Park to the railroad underpass, from Percy Street to Sullivan Street, and along Yanceyville Street from East Lindsay Street to East Bessemer Avenue. Additionally, water main upgrades were made along Summit Avenue from Sullivan Street to East Bessemer Avenue.
With an aim to unify and beautify the neighborhood, enhancements and improvements along Summit Avenue and Yanceyville Street included:
- Storm drainage improvements
- Water main upgrades
- Landscaped medians
- Hardscape, landscape and other aesthetic improvements
- Sidewalk and curb repair or replacements as needed
- Bicycle lanes
- Pavement resurfacing
- Decorative street lighting
- Bus shelters
The project aimed to promote a better quality of life for Greensboro residents, by improving connections between downtown, parks and the greenway and creating more walkable and bikeable corridors for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Construction Phases
Construction for the project occurred in two phases.
Phase One included improvements on Summit Avenue from Percy Street to Sullivan Street and on Yanceyville Street from Fifth Avenue to East Lindsay Street. In addition, water main improvements occurred along Summit Avenue from Percy Street to Bessemer Avenue. Also, Yanceyville Street from Bessemer Avenue to Fifth Avenue was restriped to add bike lane connections and continuity.
Phase Two included improvements to Summit Avenue from LeBauer Park to the railroad underpass for continuity into downtown from Phase One.
