Water Bill Payment Authorization Notice

The City of Greensboro has no contract with any third party payment center to take payments for water utility bills. There may be businesses advertising that they take utility bill payments on behalf of the City of Greensboro, but these are non-authorized payment locations. Making your payment at these locations may put you at risk of not having your payment applied to your account. Customers who make payments at a non-authorized location should note that the water utility bill is not paid until the City of Greensboro receives the money, which may take several days. Payment options and authorized location information are listed below.

Six Options for Bill Payment

  1. Pay in Person
    Methods of Payment Accepted:
    Cash, check, money order, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express). Credit cards are accepted only if payment is made in person. The person whose name is on the card must be present.

  2. Pay by Mail
    Methods of Payment Accepted:
    Check and money order

  3. Pay by Bank Draft
    Bank drafts are also accepted as payment and require an application to be completed and signed.
  4. Pay by Drop Box
    Method of Payment Accepted:
    Only checks or money orders are accepted. No cash payments may be deposited in the drop box. All payments must include a payment stub to assure proper credit. Drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Payments deposited in the drop box will be posted by 5 pm on the next business day following payment. If your water service has been turned off, you will need to pay your bill in person during normal business hours from 8 am to 5 pm.

  5. Pay Online
    Method of Payment:
    Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) accepted over a secure website.

    Please note: Your online water payment will show up as a pending payment on your account the same day it is processed. To use this service, you will be prompted to agree to the User Agreement. Please note that a flat rate convenience fee of $1 will be charged to cover additional costs incurred by the City of Greensboro. The amount charged to your credit or debit card will show as one transaction total. For example, if you authorize a payment of $10 plus the $1 convenience fee, the total reflected on your card statement will be $11.

    Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) accepted. Pre-paid cards and checking accounts are not accepted. 

    Please note: Paying your City water bill and accessing your account information over is phone is now easy and quick. Read these these tips about the process. The City Pay system only allows payment of the full balance on an account or the past due amount (all amounts over 30 days in arrears). A $1 convenience fee will be added to your water bill payment for using this system. After completion of your transaction, City Pay will provide you with a confirmation number for your records.
