The Operations Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City’s Distribution and Collection systems. This includes the following:

Water Distribution System:

• Maintenance involves approximately 1,560 miles of water mains, 33,000 water valves, and 13,500 fire hydrants.

 Sewage Collection System:

• Maintenance involves approximately 1,480 miles of sanitary sewer pipes, 53 sewage lift stations, and 35,000 sanitary sewage manholes.

The Engineering Division is responsible for the design and coordination of the engineering needs of the City's water and sewer infrastructure. The Stormwater Management Division works to alleviate flooding by maintaining and improving the vast network of storm drains, pipes, culverts, and open streams. The Division also works to protect water quality in streams, and assist residents on drainage issues. It administers the Fats, Oils and Grease Program to educate Greensboro residents and businesses about proper disposal of cooking grease and oils.
