Piedmont's Annual Model Water Tower Competition
The Model Water Tower Competition, hosted by NC One Water, teaches youth about water resource engineering, infrastructure, water treatment, and water conservation in hope that some students become water professionals.
Students will construct a functional model water tower that is structurally efficient, holds water, can be filled and drained quickly, is aesthetically pleasing, and minimizes cost.

The competition allows students to learn about the three main components of a tower through a fun-filled, hands-on science project: an elevated tank, a riser pipe, and a structure to elevate a tank.
Students will practice engineering skills by solving issues and developing the best design based on the limited specifications provided.
On the day of the competition, towers are tested to ensure they meet specifications. Models will be judged based on four criteria:
- Structural efficiency
- Cost efficiency
- Hydraulic efficiency
- Design ingenuity
Please share this flyer with information about this competition with friends throughout the Piedmont (Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin).
