Year three of the Greensboro Special Order by Consent (SOC) addressing 1,4-dioxane ended April 30, 2024. However, the Water Resources Department continues voluntary monitoring and working with industries to maintain our progress.

Voluntary Activities Details Beginning May 1, 2024:
1. Continue effluent reporting related to effluent discharges for the following activities:
a. Weekly T.Z. Osborne (TZO) effluent eDMR grab sample monitoring.
b. Report all TZO effluent 1,4-dioxane samples on eDMR and in update email to 70+ recipients.
c. Report within 24 hours to the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and notify downstream utilities if result >23 ug/L (SOC Year 3 Compliance Value).
2. Continue the following Pretreatment Program Activities:
a. Modify Significant Industrial User (SIU) permits or develop/maintain other pretreatment program mechanisms as necessary.
b. SIU Permit application follow-up for industrial facilities that indicate 1,4-dioxane is “present.”
c. Require select SIUs to collect and retain daily samples.
3. Continue the following sampling and monitoring activities:
a. Surface water: Pittsboro drinking water intake (weekly)*
b. Surface water: Haw River Arm of Jordan Lake (twice per month)*
c. T.Z. Osborne influent composite (weekly)
d. Surveillance monitoring in wastewater collection system
e. Retain weekly TZO composite of daily effluent samples
