The cities of Archdale, Burlington, Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point, Randleman, and Reidsville, as well as the Piedmont Triad Water Authority changed their secondary disinfection process for drinking water from clorination to chloramination in the summer of 2011. The conversion was implemented to ensure the utilities meet new water quality regulations.
Chloraminated and chlorinated water is safe for every day use, however three groups should take special precautions when using chloraminated water: kidney dialysis patients, fish, pond, and amphibian owners, and specialized businesses.
