Every spring, the Mayor’s Committee accepts nominations for the Stephen L. Knier Memorial Scholarship to support high school seniors with disabilities who plan to pursue a higher level of education. The scholarship is named in memory of Stephen L. Knier, former executive director of LIFESPAN Inc., long-time member of the Mayor's Committee, and community advocate for persons with disabilities.
To be eligible, an applicant must be a high school senior with disabilities who will be enrolling in continuing education opportunities, trade school, community college, college or university.
In 2019, the scholarships were awarded to Elijah Blake, Christopher Coke, Caroline Hull (pictured above, left to right.)
